Our company has been doing solar panel regulator since 2008. During this process, we have encountered many customers. Some customers do not use solar panel regulator after purchasing solar panels, but directly connect the solar panels to the battery to provide battery charging,is this correct?
Generally speaking, when using the solar panel to charge the battery, be sure to use the solar panel regulator, because the following situations will occur without the use of the solar panel regulator：
1、The solar panel regulator is not used; directly charging the battery with the solar panel will cause the battery to be overcharged; using this for a long time will cause the battery life to be shortened, and there is a risk of the liquid flowing out of the battery。
2、The solar panel regulator is not used，At night, the battery’s electricity will enter the solar panel and cause damage to the solar panel。
Regarding the second situation, some manufacturers have added diodes to the junction box of the solar panel, so that the electricity from the battery can be prevented from flowing back into the solar panel at night.
3、Low efficiency, the solar panel is directly connected to the battery for charging, reducing the solar panel regulator, and the efficiency is only below 75%, which is equivalent to the charging efficiency of the PWM controller, while using the MPPT solar panel regulator, the efficiency will reach more than 98%。
In general, it is necessary to use a solar panel regulator, which can not only protect the battery, prolong the battery life, but also improve the charging efficiency (in the case of using the MPPT solar panel regulator)
